Nanaimo RCMP’s top cop moves on

NANAIMO — The search is on for a new commanding officer of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Supt. Mark Fisher has left for a job in Winnipeg, where he’ll be a criminal operations officer at the RCMP’s provincial headquarters.

Fisher spent 2-and-a-half years at the helm of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Inspect. Sorab Rupa is the interim-commanding officer of the Nanaimo detachment.

Fisher expects a permanent officer in charge of the Nanaimo RCMP will be hired by mid-September.

He notes a detailed interview process locally will happen after the RCMP shortlists its final candidates.

Local government reps, including Snunyemux and Nanoose First Nations have been invited to be included in that interview process, according to Fisher.
