Local inventors extend opportunity to kids

Feb 18, 2017 | 6:34 AM

NANAIMO — Spring isn’t yet here and around this time of year kids can find themselves bored.

Makerspace in Nanaimo wants to change that and teach youth ages five to 14 how to capitalize on technology.

Their monthly MakeTime for Kids event in Saturday, Feb. 18 from 1 until 4 p.m.

Member Clayton Bromley said kids will be able to try their hand at circuit building, 3D printing, wood working, robotics programming and many other tasks.

“We’re big on innovation, we’re big on building and we want to share that with the younger community,” he said.

The idea behind the MakeTime for Kids event, which is run once a month, was to help Nanaimo prepare for the future.

Bromley said they want to turn Nanaimo into a technology hub and the next generation needs to be able to capitalize and thrive.

The Makerspace organization is a collective of inventors and creators who are passionate about technology.
