Nanaimo seniors attacked, tied up during shocking home invasion

Nov 27, 2018 | 2:47 PM

NANAIMO — Two Nanaimo seniors are seriously shaken after a terrifying ordeal in their own home.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the couple in their 70s were suddenly awoken in their Garner Cres. home by three violent men around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

“One of the suspects violently hit the elderly man, knocking him to the ground. It caused a huge laceration to his forehead,” O’Brien said.

The man and his wife were then tied up as the suspects ransacked the home.

Unfortunately, O’Brien said the shocking crime was totally avoidable.

“They just screwed up,” he said of the suspects. “They had the wrong house and sadly two seniors were violently assaulted as a result of their incompetence.”

Being in the wrong house didn’t stop the three men from stealing bank cards, jewelry and the couple’s car.

Police hope the public can help them find the car, a 2008 Lexus with B.C. licence plate 044 TCV.

O’Brien said the man has since been released from hospital after receiving treatment for his head wound.

“It’s a terrible ordeal. One can only imagine, you’re in your 70s and getting awoken by three people who are violent and yelling at you. It’s the last thing you want to happen.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
