SALMON ARM – The Clippers three game interior road trip ended with a 6-3 loss in Salmon Arm.

The Silverbacks scored two first period goals by Matthew Verboon and Justin Wilson, and upped the lead to 3-0 with a John Little power play goal in the second period.

The Clippers were on a long penalty kill late in the second and early into the third because of seven minutes assessed to Connor Wetsch, that included a slashing major.

Late in that Salmon Arm power play Noah Wakeford tipped home a goal that ended up being the game winner.

Tyler Williams responded right away with an individual effort.

While he was falling to the ice he swept the puck behind Matthew Armitage.

Sammy Steele scored a shorthanded goal late in the third that cut the lead to 4-2 and triggered a flurry of scoring.

Matthew Verboon beat Landon Pavlisin moments later, and then Hudson Schandor chipped in a shorthanded empty netter.

Clippers leading scorer Ethan Scardina snapped home a power play marker of his own with 20 seconds left, that concluded the scoring and wrapped up the final game of Nanaimo’s trip.

The shots were 40-31 for Salmon Arm and the power plays finished 3/6 for the Silverbacks and 1/7 for the Clippers.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Matthew Verboon (2g 1a), John Little (1g 3a), and Justin Wilson (1g).

With 16 games left in the season Nanaimo is 22-20 and sitting in third place in the Island Division.

They’re seven points behind Powell River for second spot.

Next weekend the Clippers are in Cowichan on Friday and home to Salmon Arm on Saturday.
