Back-to-back National gold for VIU’s women’s volleyball team

WELLAND — The Vancouver Island University women’s volleyball team captured its second National title in a row Saturday night.

The women defeated Kings College in three straight sets (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) at the CCAA Nationals in Welland, Ontario. It’s the first time a team from VIU has captured the National Championship in consecutive years.

VIU setter Chantal Cumming was named the tournament MVP.

Meanwhile, the men’s team captured the bronze medal at the CCAA Nationals in Red Deer in a five set thriller (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 28-30, 16-14) over the Keyano Huskies.
