NANAIMO — The normally quiet Maffeo Sutton Park was swarmed with Nanaimo RCMP Wednesday night.

Police at the scene told NanaimoNewsNOW there was a "serious incident" which happened along the seawall but the coroner was not called.

The immediate area was closed off as officers investigated.

They were seen placing numerous evidence markers around a shopping cart filled with items.

Several comments to NanaimoNewsNOW and on social media indicated they first heard sirens attending to the area around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Inquiries were made to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment but not returned by the time of publishing.

Further questions will be asked of police once more information is known.
