Car stolen and home ransacked in apparent coordinated Qualicum B&E

Apr 24, 2019 | 4:31 PM

NANAIMO —It’ll be a sour dose of reality for vacationing Qualicum Beach homeowners robbed during a daytime break and a enter.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman said a man house sitting a McRae Pl. home found items scattered all over the home and a car in the garage stolen when he checked in at the home on Thursday, April 18.

Foreman said the following day Nanaimo Mounties found the stolen Honda Fit and arrested the two people inside the car.

Evidence is being collected to see if the pair are linked to the Qualicum break-in, Foreman said.

A neighbour reported a suspicious woman came to her door the same day as the break-in and asked about the whereabouts of her dog, Foreman said.

“We believe this lady was probably checking homes to see who was home and not home, maybe to see what would be a good place to break into.”

Foreman said items may have been stolen from the home.

The suspects are from Nanaimo and well known to police.

Most local break and enters happen under the cover of darkness, but Foreman said Oceanside RCMP are dealing with a recent jump in daytime break-ins.
